Abstract

After Albino rats had been fed a high salt diet which addedsalt, 1.6%, to the normal diet for 90 days, they were orally administeved lithium at the last of day the feedings. The levels of lithium, potassium and sodium in the serum were determined at the 0, 3, 6 and 9 hours after the animals had been administrated lithium.
The obtained results are summarized as follows;
1. The concentration of lithium in the serum after lithium was administered showed the highest increase in the both the salt-added diet and control diet groups at 6 hours, and their concentrations, after that time, were decreased.
2. The salt-added diet group showed lower concentration of lithium than that of control diet group.
3. In general, it seems that salt did not significantly affect on the concentrations of potassium and sodium in the serum
